Peng Wei was born in 1974 and now lives in Beijing and Wuzhen

With a solid foundation of traditional skills, the expression of Chinese ink painting, a unique private vision and a diversified way of thinking, Peng Wei connects ancient art resources with the present and seeks a balance between the past and the present. She is widely acclaimed for engaging the practice of Chinese tradition and history in dialogue with the practice of international contemporary art, expanding and subverting the tradition of classical Chinese ink painting. Her work constructs extraordinary realities through personal narratives that span time, geography, and tradition, and addresses issues of cultural identity, intellectual belonging, and gender and sexuality.
In 2000, Peng Wei started with the "Lost Stone" series, and has created "Colorful Ink Brocade", "Good Things in Pairs", "Distant Letters", "Seven Nights", "Hi-Ne-Ni", "We All Need Stories" and other series, involving graphic paintings, three-dimensional installations, videos, photos and other forms. Become a representative of Chinese contemporary art with ink painting as the material of creation.
Peng has held solo exhibitions in museums and art institutions in New York, Hong Kong, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, and Cleveland, and has participated in exhibitions such as the Beijing Biennale, "Memory and Contemporary - Parallel Exhibition of the 57th Venice Art Biennale in Italy", "Leaving! The Identity of Women in Chinese Contemporary Art, the M+ Sigg Collection: From Revolution to Globalization and other international contemporary art exhibitions.
2014 "Distant Letters" series was selected for the Singapore Art Museum's "Outstanding Contemporary Artist Award for the Asia-Pacific Region".
